Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor’s discretion and are normally for patients on long-term treatment. Requests for prescriptions can be made via your pharmacist, online, by fax, in writing or in person at the surgery from 08:00 – 18:30 Monday to Friday. If you enclose a stamped, addressed envelope your prescription will be posted back to you.
For online ordering, you will need a PIN – please ask at reception to be registered for this service.
For clinical safety reasons, we do not accept requests over the telephone.
We are unable to take orders or issue repeat prescriptions at weekends, public holidays or out of normal surgery hours.
Please allow two complete working days before collection and make allowances for weekends and public holidays. Where possible, please use the right hand side of your previous prescription when ordering. This lists all your current repeat medications. If you no longer have this, you must give exact drug names when ordering.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review their regular medications. You will see a notification on your repeat prescription slip when this is due. Sometimes it is combined with an annual long term condition review, in which case we will write to you when your review is due.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment when you are asked, to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Electronic Prescribing Service
Donneybrook Medical Centre offers an electronic prescribing service, which means your prescription can be sent electronically direct to a pharmacy you have nominated, so you don't have to come back to the surgery to collect it and take it to the pharmacy yourself. The choice of pharmacy is yours so we ask that patients make nomination arrangements directly with the pharmacy of their choosing.
Managed Repeat Service by Pharmacies
All our local Pharmacies offer to manage your repeat medications. Please speak to your chosen Pharmacy about this service as it operates independently of the surgery. Although there may be differences between Pharmacies, all offer patients the opportunity to authorise the pharmacy to order repeat medications on their behalf when they are due. You will still be required to confirm which medications you need, but the pharmacy will notify us of your request and collect and dispense your prescription for you. Please check with them to find out what their service entails and whether it will work for you.
